Every Radio station broadcasting in the UK back in the day had to have a 'Promise of Performance'. This was the agreement between Sunset Radio (The Contractor) and The IBA (Independent Broadcasting Authority).

They say 25 years is a long time but it feels like is was just a few years ago. Sunset Radio launched on the 22nd of October 1989 after years of campaigning for this type of radio station. Looking round the internet there are bits of Sunset all over the place. I will try to bring together as much as I can here on mikeshaft.com. I am editing nothing. It is as it was.

This Saturday night on BBC the Radio Manchester Soul Show Still Takin' Care Of Business, we have got a truly sensational programme on the new film Northern Soul.

2014 saw the release of the Film Northern Soul. I had the great pleasure of speaking to the Director of the film - Elaine Constantine and to one of the stars - Lisa Stansfield. It was truly a joyous occasion in the studio that Monday morning back in October.

I have to be honest and say that I do not know where it was that I first heard the name Pamella Elaine. It could have been from one of the djs that I follow or it could have been a recommendation from iTunes.

Back in 2002, I had the great pleasure of looking after the music on Commonwealth Games Radio. The music was to be mainly black music with a sprinkling of great classic songs from other genres.
