The two-time league MVP and former GB captain – who earned 100 international caps – goes down as one of the most successful players in the history of the league.

Sullivan played in over 300 BBL games in his 12 seasons of play; amassing 4,446 points along with 2,155 rebounds and bows out having helped Leicester Riders complete a season treble with victory in the Play-Off Final at The O2 earlier this month.

The Londoner brought a total of nine pieces of silverware to the Riders over his five seasons with the club and also won eight trophies with Newcastle Eagles and a further three with Mersey Tigers.

“I have been playing basketball for over two decades,” opened Sullivan in today’s press conference. “I have had an amazing time representing my county, some amazing clubs and playing here [Leicester] for the five seasons but today I am announcing my retirement.

“It is bitter sweet as I enjoy playing here for this club so much but it has to happen at some stage and the time is right and I look forward to starting the next chapter of my life.

“There have been some amazing moments, representing Great Britain at the Olympics and playing in London a stone’s throw from where I grew up with family and friends able to watch me play.

“Winning the first league title here in Leicester, I remember looking to Russell [Levenston] and telling him I told you we would bring a league Championship here and seeing Kevin [Routledge] celebrate – those are the kind moments I am going to take away.”

Sullivan also earned Final MVP honours on six occasions, three times in the BBL Trophy with three different teams as well as twice in the BBL Play-Offs and once in the BBL Cup.

The 37-year-old first played in the BBL for London Towers in the 1995-96 season and had another season in the capital with London Lions in 2014-15, helping them reach the Play-Off Final.

There will be a testimonial game to celebrate the career of Sullivan at Leicester Arena on July 22nd at 6.30pm.
