The announcement was uniquely made via a Sharks Facebook Live stream at 7:30pm on Wednesday evening, where the Sharks GameDay Announcer, Mike Shaft, revealed McKnight and then proceeded with a short interview.

The 27 year-old Houston, Texas native has been with the club since the 2017-18 season and has helped the team achieve BBL Trophy Runners-Up in 2018 and the British Basketball All- Star Championship Runners-Up in 2020.

“It was an easy choice to come back. My family and myself are comfortable here, the organisation and the fans have always been great to us. I can’t wait to get back and get to
work,” says McKnight.

This past season the 6’0 point guard has seen Sharks career highs in almost every category averaging 11.6 pts, 4.8 reb, and 7.0 ast (4 th in assists the BBL). The floor general also finished 2 nd in free throw percentage (91.2%) and 2 nd in average minutes played (35.4). Back in December he set his career high in a BBL game with 12 assists v Newcastle.

“I still feel like we have unfinished business from last season. We proved we could play on anyone’s level and the season was cut short when we were building momentum. I’m trying to bring that same energy into next season.”

Head Coach Atiba Lyons is pleased with Mackey’s return as the 2020-21 squad starts to take shape.

“Mackey brings so much leadership and stability to the team. Watching his game and mentality develop over the last 3 seasons has been a pleasure. The addition of McKnight with Tuck is a great starting point for our roster, and we are excited to fill out the rest.”
