On Saturday 27th August 2016, Great Britain Men’s Basketball team take on the famous ‘Orange Lions’ of the Netherlands at the newly built National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue Sports Village. Tip off time 7pm. This is an international friendly prior to the Fiba Eurobasket qualifiers which are being played at the Copperbox in September.

For as long as I have been presenting Sunday Breakfast on BBC Radio Manchester, we have had a Thought for the Week, and for as long as I can remember I have been contemplating adding some of these to mikeshaft.com. Well on Sunday the 7th of August the Thought was presented by Methodist Minister & TV Producer David Waters. This seems as good a place as any to begin.

Back in the day I used to present a very special programme on BBC Radio Manchester/GMR at lunchtime on a Sunday. The programme was called Sunday Spin. Recently I was going through a huge amount of papers and came across the playlist for my final Sunday Spin. The show was broadcast on the 23rd of October 1988. I thought I would put the playlist here on mikeshaft.com.

Just lately the news from America has been dominated by bad news on almost every front. This two people have done more than most to echo what Martin Luther King said all those years ago. Keep Hope alive! When you have the time or when you feel there is no hope, please watch these two speeches. I hope they inspire you as much as they did me.
