Brooks, who was born and raised in Rochester, NY, attended Southern Miss University where he averaged 11 points and 3 assists per game in his college career. He previously attended JUCO before completing his last two seasons at the NCAA Division 1 school.

Brooks led Southern Miss to a 28 and 6 season performance in his final year and was widely tipped to be the one to watch heading into the season by a broad range of basketball journalists.

The 6’0” guard spent last season on a USA touring team in China before he returned to the states to pursue his first full time professional contract. Brooks association with the Sharks comes after Coach Lyons took the decision to restructure his team from the 2014/15 season and the departure of the formidable BJ Holmes.

“I have looked hard for the right person in this role. I need someone who will have the determination to fight for every game and be able to engage his team mates with control and I think Jerrold fits that character”, said Lyons. “His reputation is toughness and passion and I hope he will be a positive influence for everyone around him from the start”.

Brooks familiarity with the league stems from his former southern Miss team mate Neil Watson who has played his career so far in the BBL.

“I am really excited to be joining the Sharks, I hear a lot of good things about the club and I like their history and vision for the future. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of it” said Brooks. “ I know I have a lot of great team mates and I am looking forward to being part of a professional squad. I know I will make a solid contribution and help us win!”.

Brooks will arrive in time to start pre season, so will be arriving in Sheffield in a few weeks time.

“I’m excited about moving to the UK. I already know a few people so that takes away some of the anticipation of moving to a new country, but I’m looking forward to getting over there and playing ball”.

The Sharks first home game will be against the Newcastle Eagles on Friday 18th September at the EIS Sheffield, tip off 7.30pm. Tickets are available from www.tickets.com and the club recommends you buy early for this game if you want to guarantee a ticket!
