- Comments: None
The game opened at a pace as both teams look set to make it an open offensive encounter. Leeds were led by Mikulic with 7 points in the opening quarter only to be bettered by 8 points from Jones for the Wildcats. Durham edged the opening exchanges holding a 22-23 lead at the end of the first period.
Leeds continued to pour on the points in the second quarter but were also able to stifle the Wildcats at the same time, limiting them to just 13 points in the period. Leeds point guard McCann took control as he posted 8 points in the quarter including two long range attempts. Leeds had control at the half time break leading 42-36.
Leeds kept their momentum into the third period as they looked to spread the scoring with 4 players into double digit scoring by the end of the period. Wildcats continued to struggle with Jones continuing to provide their only offensive threat. Leeds were well on their way to securing their third win of the season as they held a 13 point to go into the final period (61-48).
The Wildcats went all out in the final period as they looked to get the unlikely win. Mikulic however took control of the game for Leeds, as he put up 9 points and grabbed 3 boards in the last ten minutes. The Force cruised out to an impressive 81-70 win which takes them off the bottom of the table for the first time this season. This result also means that Leeds hold the head to head battle against Durham.
Branimir Mikulic posted another outstanding performance leading the Force with 21 points and 12 rebounds. This was assisted by a 14 point, 9 assist, 3 rebound and 3 block performance from James McCann. The Wildcats were led by 14 points from Ralph Bucci, Chris Jones and John Puk.
Leeds will now make the journey south to Surrey United tomorrow. In what is a critical game for both teams, Leeds will be looking to complete their first ever back to back wins in the top tier.
They will then return home on Friday 19th December to face the league leading Esh Group Eagles Newcastle in what will be their final fixture of 2014. Tickets for the Newcastle game are available through the website.
