BJ Holmes Back For More…Again
- Comments: None
After positive discussions at the end of the season the club were swift to come to a contract conclusion that would see the popular point guard take the helm of South Yorkshires premier club.
It has been a period of rebuilding and development at the Sharks that has focussed on bringing through talents such as Colin Sing and Zach Gachette, and maintaining the core squad has been a priority Goal for skipper Atiba Lyons.
“When you are in this position where by you can conceivably maintain a team it is of paramount importance that you can keep your court leaders,” said Coach Lyons. “Having BJ back was seen as critical for the year ahead to continue to assist with that consistency”.
Leadership within the team has already had a great start with club Captain Mike Tuck secured for the season ahead, and seasoned veteran Olu Babalola continuing his return to form within the Yorkshire camp.
The return of Holmes was also inclusive of the playmakers desire to be more hands on in development, and includes a role for him within the Bbraun Junior sharks programme at the helm of the Mens U18’s squad.
“Where possible the skills of players are utilised and developed at the Sharks, for example if they are training to teach, they teach at our class room. It is an important philosophy to not just care about the players on court but off court and for long term players their post playing careers,” said MD Sarah Backovic, “In BJ’s case not only is he the best pure point guard in my opinion he is a natural born leader what he can teach our young players will be invaluable”.
The Sharks new season will begin on Friday September 26 at the EISS Sheffield for tickets or further information please contact Leanne Caley on 01142 573180.
