Leeds Carnegie Ready To Tip Off 2014
- Comments: None
Carnegie finished off 2013 in style with a four game winning streak and will be keen to keep the momentum going into the New Year. Saturday’s game against Essex will provide a stern test as the Brentwood based team are sitting pretty having lost only 2 of their first 8 league games.
Leeds Carnegie Head Coach Matt Newby is aware of the challenge that awaits his team saying “Traditionally these encounters have been fierce and physical with neither side giving any quarter.
Leopards will be led by Captain Carl Josey, who has been one of the most consistent performers in Division One for several years and a genuine pedigree guard.
He is complimented by Courtney Van Beest, and Siman Stewart both versatile forwards with good heritage. This is enhanced further by the inclusion of some excellent imports that have been making a big impact statistically in the shape of Kris Clarke and Howard Crawford.”
Less than 24 hours later Leeds will face Newham Neptunes in a game that will decide who both team’s will take on in the quarter-finals of the National Trophy. So far this season the honours are even with both teams having won one game against each other.
Newham are new to Division One but have made an immediate impact which has not gone unnoticed by Coach Newby, “Newham have an impressive roster with scoring coming from all over the court. They will be aiming to avenge their loss in the National League prior to Christmas where they were held to only 43 points for the game.
Their team includes former Carnegie standouts David Ajumobi and Ladi Brown as well as pivot Papa Dembe Kasse. This will again be a bruising and entertaining encounter with the very best of Division One on the floor.”
Tickets are still available through the club website as well as on the door.
Both games take place at the Leeds Metropolitan University Sports Arena, (LS6 3QS) with Saturday’s game tipping off at 7:30pm and Sunday’s game tipping off at 4:00pm.
