Victor MOSES

The 6ft 6ins frontcourt force arrived at Northgate with proven pedigree, having helped Georgetown College to the NAIA Division 1 National Championship last season while winning National Player of the Year honours.

And it didn’t take long for the 24-year-old to add to his trophy haul on this side of the Atlantic.

He was named BBL Player of the Month for November as he averaged 26.2 points-per-game off 61.7 per cent shooting to go with 14.2 rebounds – an impressive introduction by anyone’s standards.

Victor throws another one down“I signed with Cheshire a little after the season started and felt that it would be a great place to start my career,” said the 24-year-old.

“I feel I have adjusted really well to the BBL. Every time I step on the court my coaches and team-mates do a great job of putting me in a position to be successful.

“When you’re surrounded by talented players, the game is made a lot easier on both ends.”

Moses’ effectiveness, on both ends of the floor, has made him a real target for the opposition.

But this isn’t something that bothers him. “It’s all part of the game,” Moses added.

“Teams are always going to make adjustments to limit anyone’s impact on the game to help their team win. I just have to come out each game and play the best I can and try to do whatever I can to help my team win.”

That is undoubtedly what Moses has done lately, as Phoenix begin to find their feet – and their favoured roster – holding a three-game win streak going into this weekend’s game at Durham Wildcats.

John LAVERYPhoenix coach John Lavery, a highly-rated recruiter, has shown no hesitation in making changes when he sees fit so far this season. But the high level of Moses’ play has been one constant since his September debut.

Lavery said: “Every time he steps on the floor, you know you are going to get a double-double. He is a tremendous athlete.

“He has a great all-round game and works really hard. He is a great person and team-mate too. To pick him up was an added bonus.”

But while many consider Moses to be the pick-up of the season, the player himself, ever the ultimate team-mate, believes another addition is the key to their recent resurgence.

“I feel that everyone on our team is playing really well right now,” said Moses.

“The signing of Donatas Visockis has helped us out tremendously and he brings a true inside presence that we were missing.

“The run that we are on right now is very important if we want to make a push for the Play-offs and move up in the standings.

“When I first arrived, I felt that we had the right pieces to be successful and I still feel the same way even after all of the recent changes.

“There are some talented and well-established players in this league and so far I’ve enjoyed playing in the BBL.”

The BBL has enjoyed having you too, Victor. May this just be the start.
