Rocks Sign Alex Marcotullio
- Comments: None
Chez Marks has been officially released from the club and has been replaced by GB International Alex Marcotullio who will be making his professional debut for the Rocks this weekend against the Durham Wildcats in Durham and the Esh Group Eagles Newcastle at the Emirates Arena on Sunday evening.
Alex Marcotullio will be coming into the Rocks squad on the back of playing 4 years at Northwestern University (NCAA Big Ten) and narrowly missing out on the 2013 Eurobasket GB team that competed in Slovenia earlier this year. Marcotullio spent two summers playing for Great Britain’s U20 team at the 2010 and 2011 U20 European Championships and was chosen in the initial GB squad ahead of the 2012 Olympics but withdrew due to injury, having previously made a single appearance in 2011 in a friendly against the Netherlands.
Head Coach, Sterling Davis was adamant that a change was needed in order to kick-start the Rocks 2013/14 season and had the following to say:
“Alex is a guy that will bring a level of intensity on the defensive end that hopefully will resonate throughout the team. He has a good IQ for the game and has gained some valuable experience this summer playing with the GB team. Everyone knows he can shoot the basketball but I think he has a lot more to offer a team than only a shooter.”
The acquisition of Marcotullio has been something that Coach Davis has been working on for quite some time and it there was by no means, any cavalier approach to this decision.
“Alex is a guy that was on my radar earlier in the summer (pre-GB), so it is good that we were able to find him still available and hungry to get an opportunity after a good showing with the national team.”
All Rocks fans will be hoping that Marcotullio can be that X Factor this weekend when they take on the Durham Wildcats on Saturday evening in BBL Championship action and more importantly when they take on long-term rivals, Esh Group Eagles Newcastle in the BBL Cup Quarter Finals this Sunday, 17th November at the Emirates Arena.
Tickets are still available, for the Rocks vs Eagles BBL Cup Quarter Finals Clash this Sunday, and can be purchased from the Rocks website – www.glasgowrocks.co.uk
