Guy Goodes has been named as the GB men’s Assistant Coach while veteran GB player, Nate Reinking, has been appointed as second Assistant to Prunty. The line-up sees strong European experience added to the coaching team with Goodes a highly regarded coach in the Euroleague, currently working with Maccabi Tel Aviv as Assistant to Russian Olympic Head Coach, David Blatt.
Goodes commented on his appointment: “I am very excited to join the coaching staff of the British National Team and to be the assistant of Joe Prunty, a veteran NBA coach. I am extremely motivated and will do everything in my power to help the team succeed and reach new achievements.”
Reinking played for the GB team in the guard position from 2006 through to London 2012 earning 81 caps for the national side during his career. He has always been a well-respected member of the senior team and makes the transition from the floor to the side-lines to support the team in their EuroBasket 2013 campaign.
Reinking said: “It is a great honour to be given the opportunity by British Basketball and Head Coach, Joe Prunty, to coach and continue to build upon the success and foundation of the programme. I have a deep passion and love for the GB family and look forward to working hard as we head toward our goals at EuroBasket 2013.”
Completing the staff line–up for the senior men is Kwame Graves. Graves will be the third assistant focusing on performance analysis, scouting and player development and brings with him experience from working with the Boston Celtics in the NBA.
Standard Life GB men’s Head Coach, Joe Prunty commented on completing his coaching staff appointments: “I feel great about the staff we have assembled. We are extremely well-rounded and each member brings a unique coaching background to our staff. The individual strengths of each coach will complement one another very well. It is an honour to be working with these coaches.
“Guy is a well-respected coach and brings an outstanding knowledge of the game of basketball, while Kwame brings that special blend of on-court coaching and teaching abilities as well as film work that makes him invaluable.
“It is a pleasure to see Nate Reinking continue his career with the GB family following his retirement from playing for Great Britain last year. He brings with him excellent experience of our players and understands exactly what they are going through so is a fantastic addition to the coaching team.”
British Basketball’s National Teams Director, Warwick Cann added: “While we have taken our time to complete our coaching staff appointments, I am delighted with the end result. We have good European experience and knowledge of our upcoming opponents to complement Joe’s strong leadership. We now have an excellent coaching and support team in place to work with our players in a crucial year. We will be well prepared for EuroBasket 2013.”
Prunty’s line up of staff is now complete as the side head into EuroBasket 2013 where they will face Israel in their opening game on 4 September. They also face France, Belgium, Germany and Ukraine in the first round of Group A in the competition.
