Canadian-born Lewis, who holds a British passport joined the Sharks part way through last season and made an immediate impact with his speed, distribution, defence and three point shooting.

His impressive rookie season brought him to the attention of the Great Britain set up and he will make his debut for the Great Britain under 20’s side in a double-header against Belgium on Thursday and Saturday at WISE in Bristol before flying off for games in Helsinki and Lisbon against Finland and Portugal.

Coach Atiba Lyons was pleased to retain the services of Lewis and believes he has a big future in the game. “Nick came in last season and made a great impression in his first year as a pro. He had a couple of MVP performances and was key in our BBL Trophy success. He responds well to coaching and has a good work ethic.”

General Manager Sarah Backovic added “Nick is a great example of what we are achieving with our partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and Holiday Inn Royal Victoria (who provide Lewis’ accommodation). He has a great future in the game.”

The 19-year-old is a product of the partnership between the Sharks and Sheffield Hallam University, for whom he starred with Sharks Colin Sing, Zach Gachette and George Brownell, in Hallam’s unbeaten season that culminated in promotion to BUCS Premier League and winning the BUCS Trophy.

Speaking of his decision to commit to the Sharks, Lewis had this to say. “I’m very thankful for the opportunity to stay and play for Sheffield for the next two years. The coaching and management made the decision easier for me.”

Lewis, who quickly became a crowd favourite following his debut versus Durham Wildcats in October, had this message for supporters of the Sharks. “I hope our fans continue to cheer us along the way because we are going to have a successful season going further.”
