The back-to-back games mark the first time USA national teams have played against GB on British soil.  USA Basketball legend and member of the 1992 ‘Dream Team’, Clyde Drexler was joined by GB players Andrew Sullivan and Lauren Thomas-Johnson and GB basketball legend and 1948 Olympian Lionel Price at a special press conference today in Manchester for the announcement.

“Manchester is proud to be welcoming the U.S. and Great Britain national teams in what are sure to be enthralling encounters when the men and women face off in July,” said Councillor Michael Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Sport. “The Manchester Arena will be the place to be as we once again host top level sports here in the city.”

“I am thrilled to be here in Manchester representing USA Basketball,” said Drexler. “Fans in the UK are in for a real treat when some of the world’s best basketball players take to the court.”

The following day, the USA men’s team featuring the likes of Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose will play against the Great Britain men’s teams featuring Luol Deng, Drew Sullivan and Joel Freeland.

The games are part of a three-year partnership between Manchester City Council and the NBA which delivered the first-ever WNBA game in Europe when the Atlanta Dream played the Great Britain women’s team in March 2011.
