Masters of the Airwaves tells the story of the birth of black music radio in Britain in the seventies. It starts out with a few black music shows on legal radio, leading on to the black music pirate radio boom, and culminating with legal, black music radio stations.

Mike Shaft is back. Back to front BBC’s Commonwealth Games radio station BBC 2002 97.7FM... on air from Monday, March 4th 2002 onwards. Popular presenter Mike Shaft is back in town as the rise n’shine man on the the BBC’s dedicated Commonwealth Games radio station.


Back in the day the UK Radio industry had a weekly publication called the Radio Magazine. The issue for the week 6th - 12th July 2005 carried an interview with Mike Shaft, then Assistant Editor of BBC GMR/Radio Manchester. I am delighted to reprint that interview here in full. The photos are a new addition.
