BBL TV Back For A Second Term
- Comments: None
The voice of BBL TV last season and a commentator on British Basketball League games since the nineties, Daniel Routledge is delighted to once again be a part of the BBL TV coverage.
“Doing this job is a real privilege,” he said.
“It’s so much fun to travel the country and enjoy the atmosphere that BBL basketball brings.”
Routledge added, “I said when it launched that BBL TV is not the future, it’s the now.
“Looking back, I think we had a pretty good first year. Certainly the feedback I got from viewers was really positive.
“It’s always a challenge starting something new, but it went pretty well and this season they are looking to enhance the coverage further which sounds really exciting.
“They also dropped the price, which is almost unheard of in sport these days – something which makes it even more value for money for the fans.”
Eight different teams will be shown on BBL TV during the first month and Routledge believes it will give him an early indication of who will be contending for honours this season.
“The summer has been great, you look around the league and seemingly everyone has strengthened so the first month is going to be intriguing as you see how that plays out on the court.
“I’m a big believer in the ‘eyeball test’; I like to see a team in person before I can predict how well they might do and that’s what excites me about the opening five games.”
He added, “Plymouth and Surrey both want to do better this year so we’ll see how their summer has been on opening weekend and of course there’s the Trevor Setty factor in there as well.
“There has been a real buzz around Cheshire and the additions they have made, so I’m looking forward to seeing them in week two.
“Then during the following week, we have London and obviously they’ve signed the last two league MVPs in Andrew Sullivan and Zaire Taylor, so they will surely be one to watch this season.
“How will Worcester fair after their best-ever season and with a new-look starting five?
“Then we have Newcastle and Leicester in the following weeks and they’ve been two of the leading sides over the last few years and both will expect to be in the shake-up when the trophies are handed out.
“I think we have a pretty good mix of games in the opening few weeks which should give us some clues as to how things might pan out.”
