Renaldo Major - 1

The 32-year-old small forward played once in the NBA for Golden State Warriors and was briefly signed to a contract with the LA Clippers, but it was in the D League with the Bakersfield Jam that he made a career impact, scoring 4,252 points – a record career total before being surpassed last season.

Major, who also has a bronze medal from the Pan American Games in 2011 where he represented the USA alongside Indiana Pacer Donald Sloan and New Orleans Pelicans’ Greg Steimsma, will join John Coffino’s Cheshire Phoenix project this autumn.

The 6ft 3ins swingman brings a wealth of experience to the Phoenix and Coffino said he was excited to bring Major to the BBL Championship.

Coach Coffino said Renaldo will be a huge addition to his already strong squad and said Nix fans could look forward to witnessing an all-time great talent at the Northgate.

“We have managed to secure an all-time leading NBA D league scorer in Renaldo,” he said. “I have known Renaldo for his entire D League career. He has been not only a dominant and consistent player, but he fits the mould of what we are trying to do here in bringing in talented hard working intelligent players who are even better people off the court.

“The fans of Cheshire are in for a real treat – if I wasn’t coaching, I’d be buying a season ticket to watch these guys!”

Major joins Brad Karp, Demond Watt, Sasha Cuic, Aleek Pauline, Devan Bailey and David Aliu and Josh McGinn in Coffino’s squad for the forthcoming campaign, which tips off with the visit of BBL Cup champions Leicester Riders at the Northgate Arena on Sunday, September 28.
