Jones, grew up in a family dominated by basketball. Daughter of Manchester Giants Head Coach Jeff Jones and younger sibling of current BBL players Callum and James Jones, Georgia grew up playing the game of basketball. As well, Georgia developed through the National Teams programme earning her first Senior Great Britain cap aged just 16. After a successful youth career in the UK, gaining U16 and U18 Player of the Year awards Georgia travelled to Oral Roberts University to continue her career.

Georgia excelled in the college environment, being awarded the NCAA Summit League’s Newcomer of the Year award as a freshman and then continuing to expand to lead her team to back-to-back Summit League titles in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. Since college, Jones travelled to play in Romania with Cluj-Napoca before rejoining Great Britain for EuroBasket 2013 where the team achieved its best ever finish in the competition.

Georgia is looking forward to the joining the Riders as well as studying at Loughborough University.

“I’m really excited to be joining one of the top women’s team in the country and to help build on the success they achieved last season. Being at Loughborough will also help me to make use of their excellent sporting facilities as well as working with coach Matt Harber and his staff in order to develop individually as a basketball player. Another key to my decision was having the opportunity to study for a masters at Loughborough University. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season and can’t wait to get started.”

Head Coach Matthew Harber is excited to have Georgia join the programme as it continues to grow going into the 2013/2014 season and onwards.

“I’m very excited to welcome Georgia to our programme for the forthcoming season and I know she is going to be a great addition to our team. I’m happy that we were able to sign and support another British National Teams player, as our programme continues to demonstrate a commitment to the growth of our country’s domestic basketball.

“I think Georgia will undoubtedly add a lot of value as a player, but I’m also excited to see the influence she will have as a role model for our youth and the next generation of players we are trying to inspire through the launch of our new community project.”
