The brief of the music on the station is to tie the whole thing together. The music we will feature will include every possible genre of music for the last 20 years and more.
At present, the plan is that Music will make up approximately 40% of our total output.
In order to get the sound that we want for the station, the music has been divided into 6 categories. They are:-
The A LIST
The biggest and freshest music that we will be playing. This will include every type of music, and will become the staple sounds of the station. You will never be more than 2 songs away from a track from the BBC 2002 A list.
Examples are:-
1 More than that – BACKSTREET BOYS
2 Breathe & stop – Q TIP
3 Hit ‘em up style – Blu CANTRELL
4 The world’s greatest – R KELLY
5 Get up – Beverly KNIGHT
CLASSIC SOUL & DANCE
This will be the largest category of music on the station and includes classic soul and dance music tracks from the past 30 years. We are talking about all the great soul artists, guys like Luther VANDROSS, Anita BAKER, SHALAMAR, Bobby CALDWELL and lots lots more.

1 Never too much – Luther VANDROSS
2 Sweet love – Anita BAKER
3 Apparently nothing – YOUNG DISCIPLES
4 Ain’t nobody – RUFUS & Chaka KHAN
5 Summer time – Jazzy JEFF & The FRESH PRINCE
FRESH
This is the category that will include the most recent offerings that we will be playing. Most will be from the last couple of years and will also include the up to date tracks from the soul and dance field. We will include top quality album tracks as well, including the Grammy Award winning album from Alicia KEYS.

2 Pop ya collar – USHER
3 Falling – Alicia KEYS
4 Ain’t it funny – Jennifer Lopez & Ja RULE

OPENERS
BBC 2002 Commonwealth Games Radio will be opening each hour with a song that is guaranteed to get you singing. This is where you will hear the great Motown songs and the classic Atlantic tracks. Add to that artists like the Spencer DAVIS GROUP and Michael McDONALD and you’ll see why you won’t be able to wait for the end of our news bulletin, for one of our massive opening tracks to kick in. We will even be featuring some classic Northern Soul tracks in this section.

POP
As the word says, this is where we play all the great pop songs, including artists like LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY, SIMPLY RED, Tina TURNER and Robbie WILLIAMS. We have distilled over 30 years of music to bring you the best available pop songs from both sides of the Atlantic.

2 Lifted – LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY
3 We don’t need another hero – Tina TURNER
4 Torn – Natalie IMBRUGLIA
5 Something got me started – SIMPLY RED
SOMETHING SPECIAL
And finally the section that includes music that we couldn’t fit anywhere else. If you are looking for the classics and the off-the-wall selections, then this is where they’ll be. In here we’ll be featuring artists like Nat King COLE, Peggy Lee, Louis ARMSTRONG and Dave BRUBECK This is the category that will put the COOL to BBC 2002, Commonwealth Games Radio.

So there you have it, the music that you can hear on BBC 2002, Commonwealth Games Radio. It’s going to be the most awesome sounding radio station on the dial, but don’t take my word for it.
