The Commonwealth Games began life as the British Empire Games back in 1930, becoming the British Empire and Commonwealth Games for the 5th Games in Vancouver, Canada.
For the 9th Games in Edinburgh, they became the British Commonwealth Games and by the time the 11th Games took place in Edmonton they were named The Commonwealth Games.
