Newcastle Eagles went down to their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Plymouth Raiders while Glasgow secured a comfortable victory over Surrey United. Other winners were Cheshire Phoenix and Durham Wildcats.

WOLVES HAND RIDERS THEIR FIRST LOSS

AS SHARKS MOVE TOP WITH 3 AND 0 RECORD

Worcester Wolves made sure that the brand new University of Worcester Arena was opened in style in the home debut, as they defeated the reigning British Basketball League (BBL) champions Leicester Riders in front of a full house.

Having registered a 73-61 victory, Wolves improved to 2-0 and kept their unbeaten record intact, with Zaire Taylor proving unstoppable once again and coming up big in the decisive fourth quarter, while Riders dropped to 1-1.

In the other game of the night, One Health Sharks Sheffield climbed to the top of the standings with a 75-69 win against Plymouth University Raiders. It was already the third consecutive victory for Sharks, while Plymouth are still winless two games into the season.

Two unbeaten records were ended on Saturday night in the British Basketball League. Champions Leicester Riders held One Health Sharks Sheffield to just 40 points in the East Midlands to bounce back from their own loss at Worcester Wolves on Friday.

And in the north east, Durham Wildcats held off a fantastic comeback from London Lions to secure their first win of the 2013-14 campaign. Mike Allison scored 14 first half points for Durham and then helped his team build a 20 point third quarter lead in what looked a straightforward victory. However, the Lions came roaring back to pull within two before an 8-0 burst by the Wildcats sealed the win.

Jay Couisnard led Leicester Riders offence with 17 points – including two threes in a crucial third quarter run, as they destroyed the high flying Sheffield Sharks.

The Riders limited Sharks to just five points in the period after half time as they overturned a 26-24 deficit to take control at 39-31.

Glasgow Rocks was the last team to start the 2013-14 British Basketball League (BBL) season, but they did so in style, recording a 37-point victory against Surrey United in front of the home crowd in Emirates Arena.

Spurred on by a 34-point outburst in the first quarter, the Glasgow club made easy work of the visitors from Surrey, taking a comfortable 100-63 victory.

Elsewhere, Plymouth University Raiders needed to work overtime to get ther first win of the season, defeating Esh Group Eagles Newcastle 89-87 behind a terrific performance from Donald Robinson, who had 24 points and seven rebounds.

After two losses in previous games, Cheshire Phoenix also opened their victory count, outclassing Manchester Giants and coming out on top 83-71.
