FROM MOTOWN WITH LOVE.

Once we had decided which record was going to be the 1st played on the station on the morning of 22nd October 1989, we ran a competition with the Manchester Evening News to see who could guess what the 1st record was going to be.

The first record was Marvin Gaye’s Abraham, Martin and John.

We had a winner and she and her partner had a wonderful holiday in the sun courtesy of Sunset Radio.

Within days of the launch we received this wonderful gold disc from our friends at Motown Records to commemorate the launch of the station.

It is without doubt one of the nicest things that anyone did for the station.

When I finally left the station it was the only this that I wanted and thankfully I was able to get it and I have it on the wall of my office to this day. It is an absolute joy to see it every day.
