The BBC decided to launch a radio station dedicated to the 2002 Commonwealth Games. For the five months up to and through the games Commonwealth Games Radio took to the airwaves of Manchester and informed, Educated and inspired.

Towards the end of the run of the station, a video was produced to commemorate the station. It was a pleasure to be a part of Manchester 2002 and a part of Commonwealth Games Radio.

Dr Lindiwe Mabuza had been in Manchester just 24 hours when she arrived at BBC 2002 Commonwealth Games for our interview. She was an absolute joy and we did have a good laugh…as you will hear.

2002 Commonwealth Games Radio

In the run-up to our final day of broadcast, there was much discussion about how we were going to close down the station. I took it upon myself to worn on an idea. When it was completed I played it for station boss Tim Pemberton. He loved it.
