GB, who were top-ranked among the second seeds, will face Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland in Group A after the draw was made in Barcelona this afternoon (Monday February 3rd).

Twenty-six teams were drawn into seven groups (A-G) with the group winners plus the best six runners-up qualifying for EuroBasket 2015 in the Ukraine. To determine the best runner-up on a fair basis, results will not count against the team which finishes fourth in those groups containing four.

The full draw is as follows:
Group A: Bosnia-Herzegovina, GREAT BRITAIN, Iceland
Group B: Montenegro, Israel, Bulgaria, Netherlands
Group C: Germany, Poland, Austria, Luxembourg
Group D: Belgium, FYR Macedonia, Belarus, Denmark
Group E: Czech Republic, Georgia, Portugal, Hungary
Group F: Latvia, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland
Group G: Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Romania

Great Britain will begin their qualifying campaign in Iceland, on Sunday August 10th. Their first home game comes three days later, when Bosnia-Herzegovina arrive on British soil on August 13th.

Draw

Iceland play their return game in Britain on Wednesday August 20th, while the Great Britain squad must travel for their final game in Bosnia-Herzegovina which takes place on Sunday August 24th.

Speaking after the draw, National Teams Director Warwick Cann said;

“It is always tough to qualify for EuroBasket. This is our primary goal this summer and we obviously will prepare well to reach that goal. Our staff can now plan the preparation phase in detail.”

“We have been through this qualifying experience before so we know the challenges involved. We look forward to bringing our squad together to continue to develop towards qualification and our longer term goals.”

Games will be played in August on a home and away basis, with the first game taking place on August 10th. Venues, tip-off times and ticket information will be confirmed in due course.

But with Luol Deng committing to play subject to free agency as well as Joel Freeland’s availability, Great Britain’s home games are likely to attract strong demand for tickets.

Last August’s friendly against Puerto Rico, prior to the 2013 EuroBasket Finals in Slovenia, pulled in a 7,000 capacity crowd to London’s Copper Box in the first sporting fixture played at the Olympic Park since London 2012.
